Apply for the American Masters of Mathematics

Interested in competing at the American Masters of Mathematics?

Step 1. Apply Online

Students will be asked to complete a short application asking for student profile information and brief responses to the following six prompts.

  1. Tell us about yourself in a few sentences. How did you find your passion for mathematics? What does math mean to you?
  2. Share your math work with us.
  3. What math-related extracurricular experiences have you participated in?
  4. Please share up to 5 of your best math contest results. Put your answer in year/test/score/rank format. It's also perfectly okay if you haven't competed before! Past experience with math competitions is not required for AMM.
  5. What are your other hobbies and interests?
  6. What do you want to get out of the American Masters of Mathematics weekend?

There is no cost to apply. We will also ask you how you heard about AMM (there's no wrong answer).

No student recommendation letters are required; simply show us that you attend a school in the United States. Students will be asked to upload a picture of their school ID and provide their school information plus the name of a school administrator or teacher who can confirm the student's enrollment at the school. (The school employee does not need to know the student personally.)  Homeschool students can still apply — we may reach out to you to learn more about your study program, which is typically information that most homeschool students already have handy.

Step 2. Respond to Email Invitation to Register

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Due to limited capacity, students are encouraged to apply at their earliest convenience.  There is no deadline; the application window will close when capacity has been reached.

Once a wave of applications has been reviewed, admitted students will receive email invitations with instructions for registration and next steps.

Step 3. Ask an Adult to Complete the Registration Process and Attend as an Adult Chaperone

Registration is completed by an adult (with a Paypal account) for each student and includes payment of event fees, filling out required forms, and taking note of logistical details.  All AMM contestants must be accompanied by a registered adult chaperone, such as a parent/guardian, math team coach, teacher, or friend of the family.
